Last Friday was all about skyscrapers and the quick pace of the city. On Sunday I swapped downtown for the suburbs. The village of Long Grove is a quaint town tucked away in between nature preserves in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. They have several events throughout the year and over this past weekend they hosted an Apple Festival. The smells of sweet corn roasting and perfectly seasoned meat grilling over an open spit embraced me as I walked under the covered bridge and into the festival. And I might have gotten a picture of my delicious lunch but I was too busy inhaling my roasted corn type-writer mode to take a picture.
Umm, and yes, if you read the apple cider donut first, we should be best friends! I picked up a dozen of them with a sticker marked, “fresh baked morkes cider spice donuts.” As mentioned before, I am not usually a fan of fried dough but holy cow were these delicious. It was like they got a taste of fall and fried right into the little circle of heaven! After stuffing my face with food, I enjoyed strolling through the white topped tents looking at the different items people had for sale.
What small towns or big cities have you explored lately??
